Realising the local economic benefits
Home : Projects : Community Green Deal 2010 : Realising the local economic benefits
The Community Green Deal creates a number of key challenges in seeking to build a supply chain that can respond at scale, but also in seeking to create opportunities for the local economy:
- Creating enough certainty and confidence to support investment,
- Ensuring there is access to products that meet quality standards,
- Reskilling and diversifying local industry to respond to the opportunity.
- Identifying and developing new products to meet programme needs,
Community Green Deal programmes would have the benefit of creating the certainty to drive investment in the local supply chain and reskilling, providing jobs and growth in a market with an estimated value of £15 billion/annum.
Delivery of Community Green Deal programmes will require a range of skills, not just to deliver work on site, but also to provide supporting services such as customer care and maintenance, and in gearing up companies to supply products and services needed for whole home retrofit.
Local Enterprise Partnerships and social landlords working with Local Authorities, Universities and Colleges, Builders Merchants, Chambers of Commerce, Trade Associations and industry networks will all have a role to play in identifying and taking forward opportunities.
